The Basics of Picking the Right Snacks (0:39)

Before we look at the best snack choices, it’s important to first understand some of the science behind them. Because there’s a big myth out there that eating late at night will automatically cause you to gain fat. This is NOT true. Even though our digestive system naturally slows down at nighttime, as long as you stay under your daily calorie target you won’t automatically gain weight. That being said, eating a big meal before bed will overly stress your digestive tract and can indirectly affect your body’s ability to burn fat. But if you limit the snacks to around 300 calories at night, you’ll be okay.

So to clarify, food eaten at night doesn’t directly translate to fat gain. But be mindful of staying under your daily calorie target for weight loss, and refrain from eating large meals.
